Project Description
Although I usually choose not to showcase 3D rendered images in my portfolio—largely because my enthusiasm for this type of work has waned over time—there are exceptions. One such instance occurred in 2013, when a friend of mine was working on the development of the 7Ten Apartments in Bloomington, Indiana. Wanting to support their project, I agreed to contribute my skills and produce the necessary renderings, doing my utmost to meet both their creative vision and the project’s tight deadlines. This experience stands out not only for the personal connection, but also for the collaborative effort and the satisfaction of helping bring a friend’s vision closer to reality.
According to the current approval process established by the Bloomington, Indiana planning commission, applicants are required to submit a comprehensive 3D rendering of their proposed project. This rendering must clearly illustrate the exterior massing of the building, along with the types of materials that are intended to be used on the façade and other visible surfaces, to facilitate a thorough review. Additionally, it is necessary to include simplified massing of the nearby structures within the visualization. This contextual representation ensures that reviewers can accurately compare the proposed building’s height and overall density in relation to its surrounding environment, allowing for an informed evaluation of how the new development will fit within the existing urban landscape.
